Before you buy an EV,
know its battery.
The short answer: a clean exterior, low mileage or a 100% charge does not establish battery health. Before buying a used or imported EV in Pakistan, check the vehicle’s history, confirm its exact variant and arrange an independent battery assessment where supported.
Six checks before you decide.
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record the make, model, model year, battery variant and VIN. Imported vehicles can have different specifications from locally offered versions.
- Ask for the history. Request available service records, past battery reports, battery repairs and replacement documentation. Check that the records refer to the same vehicle.
- Check charging compatibility. Confirm the charging connector and charging arrangements you will actually use. Do not assume that a model name alone establishes connector compatibility.
- Look beyond the dashboard. Charge percentage describes energy available now. Displayed range is an estimate, not an independent battery-health measurement.
- Request a supported battery test. ALL EV can check exact variant and diagnostic connector requirements before confirming an appointment. Global coverage is not a guarantee of local service availability.
- Read the findings before paying. Discuss the report, any diagnostic findings and any follow-up needed. Keep a copy linked to the vehicle and test date.
What does a battery test add?
An independent assessment provides information about battery condition beyond appearance and mileage. It can help you ask better questions, compare the vehicle with its advertised condition and keep a documented reference.
A battery report is one part of the purchase decision. It does not replace checks of accident history, registration documents, brakes, tyres, body condition or other vehicle systems. It also does not guarantee future battery performance.
What about a plug-in hybrid?
A PHEV has a combustion engine and a rechargeable traction battery. An engine that runs smoothly does not establish the condition of that battery. Share the exact PHEV variant with ALL EV to check whether the battery diagnostic is supported.
